Landon Donovan has won his 6th Honda award. This award is given to the top American player in international play. Donovan is making the sport soccer grow in the USA, welcoming young soccer athletes to have someone to look up to in sports. There has been some discussion in whether or not Donovan actually deserves the Honda award in the past six years, but this year is different.

How could you not give this award to him? Just look at his stats. He has 5 goals and 10 assists in only 15 games this year with the USA club. Not to mention he is the captain of the team, and qualified the USA team for the world cup.

Remember this is the year he critized David Beckham one of the worlds most known soccer player. Once he came to the Galaxy team, he made a huge impression by leaving after only spending 1 year in the USA. From this Landon has gained the popularity and confidence to call out one of the most known athletes in Europe.

I think that Landon deserved this award. This award will boost his confidence which is needed to succeed in South Africa in 2010 ( world cup). He also deserves this award because no one else on the team has stepped up. The second place winner of this award, Tim Howard, the European based goalie, did not play many games with the USA team because of his contract with his England based Club.

Another reason why this is a good thing for Donovan because it adds to his resumé  has being on of the best USA based soccer players of all time. To win this award 6 times in a row is a tremendous accomplishment, and now even more young soccer players will look up to Landon Donovan.
